Check the windows, first
I was having a conversation with a client the other day about why we prep the way we prep before strength training. And it got me thinking.
I rememeber back when I was a HVAC tech, I worked for an apartment complex. I had a call rotation every 6 weeks for emergencies. One of the properties I worked had really old, drafty windows.
A call would come in for no heat. I’d go out, check it out and find the furnace blazing like Nebuchadnezzar’s. And there’s a tropical storm brewing in the living room. Windows might as well have been open.
So, how does this apply to training? More specifically, strength training.
Well, sometimes what you need is NOT more effort to move a weight. You might just have to close the windows. Could be energy leaks - technique issue. Or a window might be stuck open - motor control issue.
So before you go cranking up the furnace, get those windows checked out. Know what you’re working with. That’s why we screen. That’s why we prep.
