Work on not workout
"Practice? Why do ya'll call it that? You're working out. Just call it a workout."
I hear this often. A simple answer is, strength is a skill. For me, this was good enough explanation to change my approach some years ago. With this 'new' mindset the next question was, now what do I do about it? More on that later.
For those who aren't there yet. How about this? Strength is less about building muscle and more about training your nervous system to produce stronger contractions with less effort. As well as feeding it clean information that you are safe and stable. Input - safety(control). Output - strength>speed>power.
To improve it, you have to put it into practice. Work on the skill. The side effect is higher quality muscle than what you would get by other means.
Does this mean you should train like Shaolin monk? Of course not. Have fun, enjoy the process. Play is major part of practice. More on that later…
